About
Dr Gordon Sanghera is the CEO of Oxford Nanopore, where he has enshrined his vision of broader and fairer access to technology that could benefit society, into the company’s mission to enable the analysis of anything, by anyone, anywhere.
Gordon was born in Swindon, into a family which migrated to the UK from the Punjab region in India and instilled in Gordon a Punjabi work ethic and the value of education. He worked through a state education to achieve a bioelectronics PhD at Cardiff University and pursue postdoctoral work at Oxford, subsequently applying his education to help forge a career in science and innovation, transforming the lives of type 1 diabetics through innovation and commercial work on glucose testing technology at MediSense.
Just under half of FTSE 350 CEOs attended independent schools, compared to 7% of the population. Social mobility may be increasing but many challenges remain, especially where young people have additional challenges in their home or school environments. Reflecting Gordon’s life experiences, the Foundation will focus on supporting broader opportunities for young people of all backgrounds in the UK.
